Using Presentation Software for a Lesson
Putting in a lesson on Python Strings may seem out of place with the other assignments that are in here. One reason I thought it might be okay to use is because there is a technology and an engineering component to STEM. I know my original intent with these lessons was to focus on the science part, probably because that was easier since I taught high school science for several years, but I want my direction with STEM lessons to include coding. Knowing how to code will lead students to be able to solve problems, something we do in science, too. There was a time I wanted to learn how to code so I could create a database on viruses, much like what the DNA Learning Center did with plants. I was inspired by the Hour of Code to have students learn to write even simple programs. This particular lesson is intended to break down the structure of coding so that students who may not already think in a linear way, can at least see part of the structure that exists. Doing experiments also requires understanding the structure, and methodology behind the process of how to gather data.
